Friendships and romantic relationships grow in similar stages (they have different labels but they are indicators of developing and growing levels of intimacy whether a friendship or a sexual relationship). Interestingly, when strangers ask each other questions, they are increasingly intimate in their inquiries of each other, they watch videos that contain subliminal sexual behaviors. I suspect that the reason is two-fold: dopamine levels increase (which is correlated to motivation) and oxytocin increases (which is correlated to trust and care).
